Essian out for rest of the year

Chelsea will have to play without Michael Essien for the rest of the year. The Ghanian midfielder needs a surgery on a knee injury.

Michael Essian, 25 years old, suffered the injury while playing for his National team against Lybia for the WC 2010 qualifications in Africa. According to a club statement: “Michael has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and will undergo an operation as soon as the majority of the swelling has subsided.”
